Structuring the Void

The municipality of Lang in southern Styria invited to a competition for a masterplan that proposes a future development section by section of the industrial and commercial zone surrounding the castle Eybesfeld. In cooperation with the Belgian architecture OFFICE Kersten Geers David Van Severen we won the 2nd price for our proposal “Structuring the Void”.
The idea is to convert the former gravel mining area into a cultivated industrial landscape due to a grid consisting of east-west directed planting as well as north-south directed dams and access roads. Time has an essential role. The area should be settled depending on the demands following just a few simple design rules. During the interim cultivation of seed propagation combined with the growing commercial and industrial structure the place gains its own identity. Every present state is an interim and final result.
