New Radiology Department, LKH Graz

The project is based on the consideration of two basic points: First, the solution of the difficult urban situation and the implantation of the large building volume on the edge of the Campus LKH Univ. Klinikum Graz as a transition to the city. And second, the optimization of the functional program with high technical requirements for a highly efficient and up-to-date radiology. Due to the position of the property on the edge of the LKH Graz, the building simultaneously forms the beginning and end of this location. It is determined by the connection of the LKH area and its surrounding urban space. On the one hand the representation of the LKH to the “outside” and on the other hand the formation of a smooth transition from the dense urban space to the neighboring natural landscape of the Leechwald and the adjoining villa district with low density. Consequently, the goal must be to create a building that does not understand itself as a single object but as a complementary link of the environment.
